What are group benefits?
Group benefits are insurance that covers a group of people who are usually the members of a society, employees of a common employer, or professionals in a common group.
Group coverage helps reduce premium cost because it reduces the carrier’s risk — it creates a pool of people who came together for reasons other than buying insurance. Handled well, it is also one of the most powerful tools a small business has for keeping and attracting good people.
Major types of group benefits
Group health insurance
A policy purchased by an employer and offered to eligible employees — and often their family members — as a benefit of working for the company. For most businesses it is the anchor of the entire benefits package, and the line item owners watch most closely.
Group life insurance
Term insurance covering a group of people, usually employees of a company or members of an association. Individual proof of insurability is not normally a consideration; instead the underwriter looks at the size, turnover and financial strength of the group.
Group disability insurance
Regular income-replacement payments to an insured member of the group in the event of an eligible disability resulting from illness or injury. Generally offered as short-term (STD), long-term (LTD), or both layered together.
Group accident & supplemental
Extra coverage employees can elect to help pay for services and out-of-pocket expenses their primary plan does not cover after an accident or other covered loss. Often the piece that makes a high-deductible plan survivable.
Group dental & vision
When an organisation wants to offer genuinely competitive dental and vision benefits, the plan design matters as much as the carrier. We have access to the benefit plans that keep members, employees and their families healthy without inflating the total spend.
How we run a group
We start with your census and your current plan documents, then take them to every carrier we represent. What comes back is an apples-to-apples comparison — same deductible tiers, same network assumptions — rather than a stack of brochures.
At renewal we negotiate before we shop. Carriers frequently move on a proposed increase when an agent puts a competing quote in front of them, and that conversation is a great deal easier when you have been with the same advisor for a decade.
Then we do the unglamorous part: enrollment meetings, onboarding new hires mid-year, terminating coverage cleanly when someone leaves, and calling the carrier when a claim is processed wrong.
